Jack West & Lalo Vibe

Performance Schedule:
11/3/07, 10:00 - 11:30PM, PASIC Percussive Arts Society International Convention
Bio: The
duo of 8-string acoustic guitarist Jack West and vibraphonist Lalo is
comprised of two extraordinary musicians, both of whom are known for
their innovative approach to their respective instruments. A long-time
collaborator of legendary producer Lee Townsend, West has performed his
music with a “who’s who” of West Coast jazz musicians including drummer
Scott Amendola (Charlie Hunter), cellist Mark Summer (Turtle Island
String Quartet), violinist Jenny Scheinman (Bill Frisell), and many
others. “With rhythm at the fore, West offers unusual sound colors,
fluid slide work, and percussive attack” says Downbeat magazine. Lalo
has garnered rave reviews as a recording artist, performer, and
educator. “Lalo: Four mallet dream” John Ephland recently proclaimed
in Downbeat. “Skillful and imaginative” added Kenny Mathieson of
Jazzwise.
Together,
Jack West and Lalo share a rare musical connection. As an ensemble,
they create highly rhythmic, energetic music which perfectly balances
simple fun and virtuosity. The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle
called the duo's recent full-house performance at the Rochester Jazz
Festival "elegant and lush."
